Looking for something to get your adrenaline pumping? Well, look no further than Rochelle Jordan’s new album Play With The Changes. It marks her first full-length album since 2014’s 1021.
Mixing elements of graceful soul and UK street-scene dance culture, the 12-track project goes from themes of fast love (“Situation”) to relinquishing profound feelings (“Nothing Left”). With the safety of Black men at an all-time high, Jordan sings about knowing he’s protected in her arms on “Lay.”
Jordan shared early tracks such as “Next 2 You” and “Got Em’.” The former, produced by Machinedrum and KLSH, is all about the urge to have a close connection with a romantic interest. The latter is an upbeat selection delving into affirmation, as she said in a press release.
“Play With the Changes represents all the things I love about creating music,” explained Jordan in a statement. “Freedom, imagination, colors, blending sounds, frequency, and feeling. Every story I wrote of self-discovery, anxiety, blackness, control, boldness, and honesty are all pieces of what I personally needed to learn and understand over the past few years.”
She added, “All the sides of my style, sound, and my desire this time around to knit R&B and dance music together in my own way, on one record.”
