Durand Jones & The Indications Private Space

Dead Oceans

The wait is finally over. Durand Jones & The Indications have finally released their new album, Private Space. It arrives two years after the release of their sophomore album, American Love Call.

Private Space brings back that feeling best described as grown folks’ music. Stretching ten songs, which includes early tracks, “Witchoo,” “Love Will Work It Out,” and “The Way I Do,” the album serves as a melting pot to blend various genres, from traditional soul to funk to disco.

Think of ‘70s funk when you hear “Reach Out,” an intriguing number where a worrisome partner is asked to no longer hide their troubles from their concerned love interest. “Ride or Die” is a soothing disco jam consisting of a warming groove and a slamming bassline that prompts one to get up and slow dance with their lover.

Regarding Private Space, the group’s frontman Durand Jones stated, “At the end of the day, I just want people to close their eyes and forget where they are. Just the way a Stevie Wonder album does for me.”

Percussionist and vocalist Aaron Frazer added, “I feel we’ll be arriving into people’s lives as they’re exiting a really tough period. We’re not out of the woods, but hopefully this allows people to get together again, to share and experience catharsis.”

Beginning on September 4 in Hershey, Pa., the quintet will storm venues across the nation on a headlining tour supporting Private Space. Along the way, they will perform in other major cities such as Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Seattle, and more. Find the full itinerary and ticket information on their official website.
