Keithian’s new song “Chance?” is nostalgic. It bears the same kind of pleading cadence of Keith Sweat, especially its ending and the familiar, timeworn piano melody of Brenda Russell’s “A Little Bit of Love.”
In discussing that song, Keithian said he was inspired by the gamble you run into when playing games like Monopoly.
“When I wrote this song, I had an experience in mind, where I did everything, I could [to] get the attention of this girl, but she treated me like shit. Then right when I got uninterested, she started to have interest in me,” he explained.
He continued, “I then started to play games and do things that I knew got to her just because I resented her for playing hard to get. But the awkward thing was, I knew both of us were not gonna be honest enough to make it right or leave, so we just stayed in it and played the game.”
“Chance?” follows Keithian’s July release “Go Bae.” Both will appear on his upcoming Green Clouds EP, birthed from virtual quarantine sessions with producer OLivR.
The forthcoming project, which is slated to come out sometime later this year, will be his first packaged release since last year … To My Pain.
