Mario premiered the visuals for his latest single “Somebody Else” featuring Nicki Minaj on BET’s “106 & Park” (July 10). Along with dropping off the new video, the “Turning Point” singer shared details with fans on what to expect from his upcoming album and the concept behind the lead single.
“It’s a conversation. I’m conversing with the woman that I’m in a relationship with,” said Mario about the Polow Da Don-produced single. “We’re talking about her leaving and I’m saying that I know you coming back. It wasn’t that serious, but at the same time, you wasn’t no better. Why you leaving?”
Many fans may have wondered “what took Mario four years to release a new project?,” but the R&B crooner had a finished album solely produced by Rico-Love but scrapped it. “It wasn’t what I wanted for the direction of my record, so I started over and recorded a whole new album.”
With his fifth studio album, he believes the new record will have something for all fans. “Expect to party with me, expect to cry with me, expect to laugh with me. It’s a well-rounded album,” Mario said.
Before the summer comes to an end, Mario expects to release “turn up, summer record” but has a few ballads for the ladies this winter.
