Fantasia takes us to church on Sunday Best season six last night with performances of “To the Heavens” and “Pass Me Not.”
We all know that the powerhouse singer started in the church as heard from her churchy adlibs and ‘take ‘em’ to church performances. She bluntly warned the audience ahead of time saying, “Hope y’all came out to have a good time, I’m going to try to keep my shoes on,” showing the singer’s southern North Carolina charm and hospitality.
The soulful singer and six back-up vocalists started off with a soulful church track from Fantasia herself entitled “To the Heavens.” Dressed in an all black ensemble, Fantasia belts out the inspirational song getting both the judges and the crowd uplifted. After “To the Heavens,” Fantasia transitions to a gospel classic, “Pass Me Not.”
“Whenever I sing that song I think of a wonderful woman who walked this earth and she was very anointed,” proclaims the 29-year-old singer. “Ms. Whitney Houston, so I just want to sing a little bit of this for her.”
The spirit-filled Fantasia caught a bit of the Holy Ghost herself during this performance as she stopped a few times to regain her composure. She even went acapella at the end of the song making the judges and audience stand from their seats. What a way to close out the show.
