Bootsy Collins is keeping the momentum going for his upcoming LP, Album of the Year #1 Funkateer.
The legendary funk artist has shared his new single “Pure Perfection,” and it certainly lives up to its title.
The lush slow jam was crafted strictly for the bedroom, giving Collins’ alter ego, Bedroom Bootsy, the stage to work his magic. “You’re pure perfection / In every direction / Let’s make that connection,” he sings on the sensual tune.
Speaking on his new song, Collins explains, “‘Pure Perfection’ is the light that you bring into this world, that light that stays lit, producing every boy and every girl. ‘Pure Perfection’ is the sunset and the sound of the sea; it’s all the watchmen that look after you and me.”
He continues, “‘Pure Perfection’ is this day as it turns into the night. Teaching all citizens of the universe to ‘Funk, not Fight.'”
“Pure Perfection” is the second single from Album of the Year # 1 Funkateer. It’s the follow-up to “The Influencers,” featuring Westcoast Stone, Wiz Khalifa, Dave Stewart, Snoop Dogg, and Fantaazma.
Album of the Year #1 Funkateer will consist of 18 songs and will include additional features from Musiq Soulchild, October London, and Ice Cube, among others.
Regarding Album of the Year, Collins stated, “When I start on a project now, it’s about getting the energy from people around me. Then, I proceed to gather transmissions from the universe to know what to talk about. It’s important to me to see who the universe brings to me.”
He added, “I’ve been really blessed that every time I want to do a new record, I get these incredible musicians around me right on time. That’s what this album helps me do — transmitting and receiving with different musicians and artists that have the same desire I had when I was their age.”
Album of the Year releases Oct. 25 via Bootzilla Records/Equity, a day before Collins’ 73rd birthday.
