Since 2020’s “Morning,” rising soul singer Amaria has smoothly carved out a lane for herself in R&B. Her mesmerizing debut album, Free Fallin’, makes her an exciting artist to watch.

The 12-track offering, released Oct. 11, was preceded by the singles “Beggin’,” “Back To Me” and “Finer Things.”

On Free Fallin’, Amaria drifts through life’s motions as she navigates the highs and lows of love. The album opens with Amaria confronted with the reality of a fleeting relationship. “You got me runnin’ around the galaxy / Searchin’ for serenity / It’s over, it’s over,” she sings on “Over.”

On the self-produced and self-penned “Give It To You,” Amaria looks to her Higher Power for clarity and guidance. “Sweet lord will you help me out / I’m feeling everything they talk about / I’ll give it to you,” she sings over a relaxed production.

The title track, which feels like an ode to “Morning,” hears the Los Angeles-based singer embracing life’s unpredictability with no worries.

As the album progresses, the production becomes more bold and daring, as heard in “Finer Things.” Still committed to the overall smooth soundscape, “Finer Things” incorporates driving percussion as Amaria confidently sings, “I can do it better than she ever could.”

“Make You Wanna,” another standout, hears the singer reaffirming her commitment to a partner. “I won’t let you go,” she sings on the hip-shaking groove.

Speaking on Free Fallin’, Amaria tells Rated R&B, “The main theme of the album, represented by the name, is the idea of going through different life experiences with no safety net. Letting life take you whichever way it wants —essentially ‘free falling.”

Free Fallin’ is the follow-up to Amaria’s EPs All For You (2023) and Bittersweet (2021). The former project includes guest appearances from Destin Conrad (“All For You”) and Phabo (“Damage”). Meanwhile, the latter EP includes a collaboration with Mick Jenkins (“Got Me Like”).
