“Lately..have I told you I love you” were the kind and warm words R&B crooner Tyrese sung on his second single “Lately” off his self-titled debut album released in 1998.
Written by Derek Allen and co-written by Tyrese, the song was a dedication to anyone’s significant other, reminding them of the simple things about their romance.
The ballad peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and reached No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Nearly 14 years later, “Lately” would be remade by the R&B legend Anita Baker, which debuted at No.10 on Urban AC radio, becoming the highest debut in 15 years.
Nonetheless, Tyrese brought the song to life, making it one of the strong ballads from male R&B singers.
