British crooner Sekou has returned with “Catching Bodies,” his first solo release in over a year, via Republic Records.
The vintage soul production, led by Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, Kevin Theodore and Theron Thomas, is anchored by an understated bassline and lifted by regal horns. Sekou’s rich baritone voice soars on the funky groove as he desires a committed relationship over casual encounters.
“If you don’t want love / I just rather not waste my time ’cause baby I do / Can’t be out here just catching bodies,” Sekou croons.
“Catching Bodies” is Sekou’s first single since his aching ballad “Let Go of Me Slowly” was released in April 2024.
“I have been waiting so long for this moment and ‘Catching Bodies’ feels like the perfect song to release after a lot of setbacks, but we are here, timings, everything feels like the start of something beautiful,” says Sekou.

The 20-year-old first teased “Catching Bodies” in a snippet shared to his Instagram on July 23. “First snippet,” he wrote. “WELCOME TO THE NEW ERA!!!!! MOTOWN IS SO BACK!!!!!!!!!! IM SCREAMING!!!!! 2 YEARS IN THE MAKING!!!!COMING VERY SOON!!!!!!!”
The snippet was posted following Sekou’s appearance on Justin Bieber’s album SWAG, where he sang background vocals on “Too Long.”
Sekou released his debut EP, Out of Mind, in 2023. The six-track offering included his stirring ballad “Better Man.”
“I wanted to have creative freedom on this and do something different from what I’ve done before,” Sekou said about Out of Mind. “I loved having control over the kind of sound I wanted to make, the people I wanted to work with, and the tracks on the project – it was freeing and allowed me to be honest.”
