Interscope Records/UMe

Mýa is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her sophomore album, Fear of Flying, with a vinyl reissue via Interscope Records/UMe. The 2LP vinyl marks the first pressing since the album’s original 2000 release.

The Fear of Flying (25th Anniversary) vinyl features all the album’s original tracks — including the singles “The Best of Me,” “Case of the Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)” and “Free” — plus the bonus tracks “No Tears On My Pillow” and “For The First Time.” Each vinyl will also include a hand-signed insert by Mýa.

There is also a Fear of Flying t-shirt available, designed in a vintage style inspired by the album’s cover, photographed by David LaChapelle. In addition to the vinyl, the album is also available in Dolby Atmos sound on streaming services for the first time.

Fear of Flying was released April 25, 2000, via University Music Records/Interscope Records. The album opened at No. 15 on the Billboard 200, an increase from her self-titled debut’s No. 29 starting position.

“Case of the Ex,” produced by Tricky Stewart, was the album’s highest-charting single, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. (Mýa would later earn her first No. 1 in 2002 with “Lady Marmalade,” her all-star collaboration with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and P!nk.)

Fear of Flying included additional production and songwriting by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Rodney Jerkins, LaShawn Daniels, Swizz Beatz, Robin Thicke, Wyclef Jean and more. The album also featured collaborations with Jadakiss (“The Best of Me”), Left Eye (“Takin’ Me Over”) and Beenie Man (“Lie Detector”).

By March 2001, Fear of Flying had been certified platinum, with over one million copies sold in the U.S.

“Fear of Flying was such a transformative moment in my life and career,” Mýa reflects. “At 19 and 20, I was learning how to use my voice as both a woman and a songwriter. Revisiting this album 25 years later feels like coming full circle — it’s a reminder of the risks I took, the independence I fought for, and the supporters who’ve been with me on this journey.”

In June, Mýa celebrated the album’s anniversary at the 2025 BET Awards, where she performed “Case of the Ex” as part of the 106 & Park 25th anniversary tribute.

In other news, Mýa has released two new singles this year — “Face to Face” and “Give It to You” — which will appear on her upcoming album via her independent label Planet 9 and Virgin Music Group.

Further, Mýa has been filling in for Muni Long as a supporting act on Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine Tour while the singer recovers from pneumonia.
