R&B/Soul vocalist Macy Gray has joined the cast of Fox’s hip-hop drama “Empire.”
“Empire” stars Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon, the ex-wife to label head Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard). Grammy-winning Gray will recur her role as Tasha, a woman having an affair with the much-younger Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Y. Gray aka rapper Yazz The Greatest), over whom she exercises considerable influence and control.
The show’s cast includes Gabourey Sidibe and Tasha Smith in recurring roles and regulars Jussie Smollett, Malik Yoba, Kaitlin Doubleday, Trai Byers, and Grace Gealey.
Gray’s previous TV acting credits include roles in “American Dreams, “That’s So Raven,” “Lackawanna Blues, and “Cold Case.”
“Empire” is the latest collaboration for Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, who previously teamed up for “The Butler.” The series will feature veteran Hip-Hop producer Timbaland as the show’s songwriter/music producer.
