Aaliyah

It’s only been two days since Aaliyah’s biopic was announced by Lifetime and things have been very dramatic sense then. Hardcore Aaliyah fans have started a petition to stop the biopic. Now, Aaliyah’s family is reportedly sharing their feelings about the made-for-television movie.

According to TMZ, Aaliyah’s family is not opposed to a biopic; however, they are not satisfied with her biopic airing on television. They allegedly prefer it to be a feature film.

Zendaya Coleman To Play Aaliyah In Biopic

Therefore, the family is working on ways to prevent the movie from happening. TMZ reports, “Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager say the family will block any attempt on Lifetime’s part to use any of Aaliyah’s music.  He allegedly says the family has hired a lawyer and will do everything they can to block release of the flick.”

As the uproar continues, the family does urge fans to not attack Zendaya Coleman who was casted to portray Aaliyah.

“Fans we hear your comments and concerns !! unfortunately we cannot confirm the family is behind the project at this time,” says Aaliyah’s official Twitter account. “However ,we do ask that you are respectful to the artist playing the role, for they may not fully have or know the details about this role. And her family’s involvement #teamaaliyah”
