Jennifer Hudson and the rest of the cast from Broadway musical The Color Purple honored the late Prince on Thursday night.
At the end of the show, Hudson gave some remarks about Prince. “I did not expect to have to speak tonight, but God has his way,” she said. “As we all know on today, we lost a legend. We lost a legend who was a good friend of mine , Prince, who’s dear to all of us.”
Following her remarks, Hudson and the cast performed Prince’s signature song “Purple Rain.” Cast member Cynthia Erivo, started off the performance before handing it off to Hudson.
