Mary J. Blige isn’t letting heartbreak keep her down on “Stronger Than I Ever Was,” lifted from the Sherlock Gnomes soundtrack.
Penned by Sir Elton John, the R&B singer gives her former lover a piece of her mind after discovering her strength. “It’s out there, poster sign / It’s no secret you’re no prize,” she sings. “Sister-child, I’m here to say / I never really liked you anyway.”
Blige stars in Sherlock Gnomes as Irene Adler, who was engaged to Sherlock. John shared he “never wrote a song like this before” but drew inspiration from Irene and Blige’s recent love tales for the song’s dynamic lyrics.
