Mariah Carey Releases New Song ‘GTFO’

Mariah Carey has narrowed her sights on a new era. The songbird supreme has released a new single titled “GTFO” from her still-untitled 15th studio album, due this fall.

Produced by Nineteen85 and penned by MC herself — with some assistance from Bibi Bourelly, Jordan Manswell and Paul Jeffries — “GTFO” features a surprising sample from Porter Robinson’s sonically pleasing “Goodbye To a World” from 2014.

On the dismissive track, Carey coos and vocalizes in a breathy fashion as she laments a love gone wrong. Her airy vocals are a trademark portion of her repertoire, but here they are understated with the purpose to give rise to the lyrical content. “You took my love for granted/ You left me lost and disenchanted/ Bulldoze my heart as if you planned it,” Carey proclaims with a certain stinging sweetness that gives the song passion.

Those expecting Carey to elevate a few octaves into a roaring climax may be disappointed. “GTFO,” though, stands on its own by showcasing her ability to be current in a way that’s genuine to her signature sound.

The visual, directed by Sarah McColgan, will be released on September 14 at midnight EST. Carey has just teased a snippet of the video which features herself in lingerie and frolicking around an abandoned house in a way only Mimi can.

“GTFO” serves as a prelude for Carey’s upcoming lead single, “With You,” which is scheduled for release on October 5. According to Carey, “GTFO” was released as an appetizer to whet people’s curiosity for her new project. “I’ve had so much fun making this album, and I wanted the first moment to reflect that light-hearted spirit,” Carey said in a press statement.
