Ashanti has announced her return to the silver screen in Michael Berry’s directed music drama Stuck.

The original musical will follow six strangers who get trapped on a New York City subway together. Ashanti, who plays Eve, one of the six passengers on the train. She and the other commuters find the strength to survive and inspire each other through songs that tell their troubled stories.

“We’re putting a positive spin on things and looking at the glass half full versus half empty, and we tried to paint a positive picture of all those scary moments,” shared Ashanti to Entertainment Weekly. “It shows that we’ve all gone through situations where we may not be thinking the best while going through situations with other people, dealing with racism, feeling different, or feeling frustrated in the moment.”

Not only does Ashanti star in the film, but she is also signed on as executive producer.

Stuck is slated to make its stop in theaters on April 19 via Freestyle Releasing.

While Ashanti is busy acting, she hasn’t abandoned her plans to the fill “a real void for true, soul-touching R&B.” She mentioned to EW that she is hoping to release the official single for her forthcoming album soon. But for the singer, she keeps one thing in mind when it comes to delivering new music to fans.

“With me, it’s timing,” she said to EW’s Joey Nolfi. “There are a lot of things going on and it’s important to line everything up as much as you can, but it’s also important to not sit and wait on things. Sometimes I have a bad habit of waiting for things to line up perfectly because sometimes that doesn’t happen and then you miss out. I’d love to have some new stuff out this summer!”

While she is hush about the album title, she did reveal the follow-up to 2014’s Braveheart “has a concept and it’s really cool.”
