Alicia Keys made a special appearance at the Pride Live’s Stonewall Day concert in New York City last Friday (June 28).
For the iHeartMedia-presented event, which marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, the global superstar, rocking her signature beaded braids look, showed her pride with a moving cover of “True Colors” by LGBT icon Cyndi Lauper.
Keys uploaded the full performance of her amazing rendition on her official YouTube. The video package captured the multi-awarded Grammy winner behind her piano, styled in her Stella McCartney show me love jumpsuit. The visual also included candid shots of the beautiful crowd living in their truth at the World Pride celebration.
“I felt so moved to play at #Stonewall50 during World Pride this year knowing it was in my hometown, and this song captured the energy so perfectly!!,” wrote Keys about why she choose to perform this record. “YOU COULD FEEL IT! New York, you showed your True Colors and they were so beautiful!!”
Keys, who is set to release a memoir later this year, is headlining the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival in September. This will be mark her second time as the star of the festival as she performed at the very first concert in 2011.
