Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Mahalia calls on Ella Mai to add fuel to the fire in the video for “What You Did.”
In an ambiguous location on the outskirts of town, Mahalia is seen in the KC Locke-director visual in a classic Volvo 240 singing the heartless score. She is later joined by Mai in multiple shots, including one where they both donning a matching black pinstriped suit. By the end of the cinematic clip, the two are walking hand in hand as they watch the vintage car burst into flames. If this was Mahalia no-good lover’s ride, he better hope his insurance covers revenge arson.
“What You Did” is one of 13 tracks on Mahalia’s debut album, Love and Compromise, which is out now. In our in-depth album review, we praise the U.K. songstress for her emotional honesty, stating, “In an age where being fake is in, her imperfections will firmly set her apart from her young contemporaries.”
On September 22, Mahalia kicks off her supporting tour with special guests Jvck James and Sebastian Mikael. The first show is in Detroit.
