Grammy-nominated Lianne La Havas is blessing ears with a brand new song titled “Paper Thin.”
Over a guitar-led backdrop, La Havas presents a stirring vocal about standing strong in your truth even if you see yourself as “paper-thin.”
“Paper thin / God only knows the pain you’re in / But the future’s bright / and you’ve got God on your side,” she croons on the track.
Speaking on her new single, La Havas explains, “‘Paper Thin,’ for me, is the song that started this whole thing. It started as a distant melody in my head as I was falling asleep that I decided not to sleep on.”
“Paper Thin” will appear on the Britain singer-songwriter’s self-entitled album, due out July 17 via Nonesuch Records. It is her first full-length project since 2015’s Blood.
“This is my first self-produced album with my own band. I got my own way with everything—all the decisions that you hear on this album were mine,” La Havas says.
“I’ve tapped into the best and worst parts of me and while I didn’t expect this to be the direction of my new music, it’s my reality and it’s driven by emotion. I dare say that this is the closest I’ve gotten to a pure expression so far. If you’d never heard me before, I’d be happy to say, ‘This is me. This is who I am.’”
La Havas’ upcoming LP features “Bittersweet,” which was released in February and a cover of Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes.”
