Tinashe is the cover star for Nylon’s October 2016 issue. Photographed by Anairam and styled by Johnny Wujek, the 23-year-old wears a Geoffery Marc top with Baja East pants.
In her cover story, Tinashe opens up her recent battle with insecurity due to her second album, Joyride, getting pushed back a few times by her label.
“I’ve always been so confident in myself, but there’s so much doubt now in my mind because of what I’ve gone through—so many setbacks, pushbacks, album delays,” she says. “It’s just kind of shaken my belief system. But I still believe, at the end of the day, I’m going to find some way to succeed and be happy.”
Although she’s been tempted to leak songs off the album, Tinashe says it wouldn’t benefit her, her label or her collaborators.
“If I just put it on SoundCloud, I’m not getting paid, my label isn’t getting paid,” she explains.
She also speaks on some of the scrutinies she received from some critics and fans for collaborating with Chris Brown.
“It wasn’t my decision,” she reveals. “That’s what people don’t understand. But you know, at the end of the day, I still really respect him as an artist. I think he’s really talented. It was always a goal of mine to collaborate with him at some point.”
The October issue will hit newsstands on September 27.
