Singer/Actress Jennifer Hudson recently revealed that she rejected the offer to play Precious in the 2009 film “Precious.”
According to Uptown Magazine, Hudson refused to play the lead role because she would have had to gain more weight.
Hudson was asked to play the lead role by director Lee Daniels towards the end of her promo trail for “Dreamgirls.”
Gaining extra weight was something that didn’t interest Hudson. In her upcoming book I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down, Hudson shares detail on her turning down her role as Precious:
“I had done that with Effie… and as much as I was moved by this film,” said Hudson. “I wanted to try a role that had nothing whatsoever to do with my weight.”
Hudson seems to be very pleased with her dramatic weight loss. It’s definitely had a positive impact on her career. She is currently the face of Weight Watchers and has a new book coming out called I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down, which will be released on Jan. 10, 2012.
