Ciara on New Album: ‘It’s Really Important to Take My Time With This Record’

After interviewing football players on Super Bowl press day, Ciara stopped by Sway in the Morning to chop it up with co-hosts Sway Calloway and Devi Dev.

During her interview, Ciara discussed her upcoming album and her growth as an artist and businesswoman.

Regarding her follow-up to 2010’s Basic Instinct, Ciara shared, “It’s just really about the vibe. I will just tell you that it’s a good vibe going. It’s really important for me to take my time with this record. It’s important to all of us, the whole team. It’s really, really good energy.”

When asked about her artistic growth, Ciara reflected, “My fans have kind of seen me grow from being young, you know, to now. I’m still a young woman, but they’re watching me grow in front of them. And I’ve been able to make mistakes in front of my fans and the world.”

She continued, “It’s kind of fun to be able to learn as I grow and to know that my fans are growing with me…at this point in my career, it’s important for me to be the best businesswoman I can be. I really want to build my empire. I want a strong empire…I’ve learned so much that it’s actually exciting…

Ciara also revealed that she co-produced one of the tracks that may be on her album.

Despite all the criticism Ciara received about her past two albums — Basic Instinct and Fantasy Ride — she remains very optimistic. Although her last two albums didn’t do commercially well, she still has faith in her craft. Sometimes, it’s all about the right timing.

Hopefully, Ciara will make a strong comeback now that she’s signed with Epic Records. As she mentioned in the interview, it’s important for her to take her time with this record. At this point, her upcoming album can make or break her career. So, it’s important that she doesn’t rush this record.
