Remember R&B quartet Shai? They were formed in 1989 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Shai’s most successful record was their title track (“If I Ever Fall In Love”) from their debut album “…If I Ever Fall In Love.” The song was released in 1992 and became an instant hit. There were two versions to the song: a remix with an instrumental and the original acapella. The remix became very popular. It spent 27 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100, peaking at the #2 position; 24 weeks on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop Songs Chart, peaking at #1; and 20 weeks on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, peaking at the #5 position.
“If I Ever Fall In Love” went on to becoming an international hit, gaining chart recognition in places like the UK (peaked at #36 on UK Singles Chart), Canada (peaked at #53 on Canadian Singles Chart), and Australia (peaked at #4 on ARIA Singles Chart).
