This week’s Throwback Thursday song comes from British singer-songwriter Lisa Stansfield.
In 1989, Stansfield released “All Around The World” in the UK which was lifted from her platinum-selling album “Affection.” The song became an international hit, gaining popularity in the United States and other countries. It peaked at #1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Songs Chart in 1990. In addition, it was certified platinum in the United States on April 23, 1990. Thus, the new jack swing track became one of Stanfield’s most successful songs.
There was also an alternative version of “All Around The World” which featured legendary singer Barry White.

Fun fact: Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy) sampled “All Around the World” on his 1997 hit song “Been Around The World.”
