On his “fams”…
I don’t even like calling them fans. I call them “fams” because they are my extended family. I feel like we have some of the greatest fams in the world. There’s none like them. I’m pretty sure they’ll definitely support everything that everyone’s doing.
A humble Brian Angel…
I am sh*t without the people that support me. Anyone that has had an encounter with me- or had an opportunity to meet me – will tell you, that’s one thing that I do cherish and I do uphold, which are my fans. I’m nothing if they don’t listen…I’m nothing if they don’t go out actually support. I’m nothing if they don’t come to the shows.
I feel like sometimes us as quote unquote as celebrities – I don’t like calling myself a celebrity because I’m just Brian – but us as celebrities, we tend to try to detach ourselves from the quote unquote normal person. But I’m no different from the next man. I put my pants leg on one leg at a time like everybody else does…I’m blessed and very thankful.
His thoughts on the state of R&B…
I think R&B is kind of grown into something that I feel like something I feel that it shouldn’t have grown into, as far as the direction. R&B was good in the 90s. That’s when R&B felt good. That’s when R&B meant something. I think nowadays, us artists we tend to try to keep up with the times as far as the dance, the pop records, so on and so forth – And I’m cool with that. I actually just recorded a record like that two nights ago. But will I have an album full of songs like that? No, because that’s not who I am. I feel like R&B is something that should be felt in your soul, in your heart. Whenever you hear it, it makes you feel a certain way. So I’m definitely trying to take it back to that.
On his influence for becoming a spokesperson for the Sickle-Cell Disease Association of America…
A lot of people around me – that are extremely close have sickle-cell. I feel like that’s a disease that gets overlooked so much, but at the same time there are people actually living day-to-day with this disease. It’s sad that people aren’t as educated as they should be about this.
Where he sees himself in 2013…
Oh man, I’m winning Grammys. I’m winning BET Awards. I’m winning it all! And then I can’t wait to get back with my brothers of Day26 and we are going to rock even harder.
Brian was very excited when he talked about his new music and record label. We are definitely supporters and wish him the best as a solo artist.
