Alicia Keys has something to smile and frown about. Keys’ Girl on Fire album made an impressive debut on the Billboard 200, landing at the number one position, which makes this her fifth number one album. However, according to Nielsen SoundScan, she only managed to sell 159,000 copies in the first, making it the lowest-selling debut of her career.

Girl on Fire is the follow-up to Keys’ 2009 album, The Element of Freedom, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 417,000 copies sold. So far two singles have been released from the album: “Girl on Fire” and “Brand New Me.”

Last week, the R&B songbird wrote a letter to her fans telling them what Girl on Fire (the album) means to her. “‘Girl on Fire’ is about new beginnings, new perspectives and fresh starts,” she said.
“It’s about finding your own inner strength and channeling it in a way you’ve never tried before. To be “on fire” is to allow yourself the freedom to take full control of who you are and how you want to live your life. To live your passion and shine your light unabashedly!! It’s that moment you choose to claim your power and be extraordinary!
Keys also recently revealed that she is planning to go on tour next year with Miguel as a supporting act. That’ll definitely be a concert that you don’t want to miss! We can’t wait to learn more details about the tour.
Congratulations are definitely in order for Alicia Keys. There aren’t many singers who can say that 80 percent of their albums debut at number one Billboard 200. Now, we shall sit back and wait for Keys to push her second single from Girl on Fire titled “Brand New Me.”
