RL of R&B group Next premieres his visual for his comeback single “Boo’d Up” featuring Taylor J. “Boo’d Up” is the lead single off RL’s upcoming solo album, 5:15, due later this year.
Speaking on his new project, RL states:
My mother was telling me about the time I was born,” the crooner shares, and it was at 5:15. With this new project, I’m born again. I recorded 70 records for this album.” Feeling the need to drop an anthem that ‘felt right to the soul’ is what prompted “Boo’d Up” as the first single from this project. Something that would feel right being performed between classics like “Too Close” and “Wifey” but also feed this new generation of R&B fans.
I think a lot of times artists get relaxed and take their fan base for granted. I don’t want to do that. I want to take it back to how I felt as a new artist. When I really look back, that’s when it was the most enjoyable, when I was innocent and didn’t know about the politics. When I wasn’t afforded certain things like ‘I need to have this or I need this room or this flight’, different things that don’t make the music what it needs to be. The hustle and the struggle makes it, so I wanted to go back to that hunger.
