Although he just released his “R.E.D.” album last winter, Ne-Yo is already talking about his next album. The “So Sick” singer recently stopped by 93.9 WKYS in Washington, D.C. to chat with Ez Street.
During his interview, Ne-Yo mentioned that he’s going to focus on making more R&B music than electronic dance music (EDM) on his next album. “I feel like even though I have a love and respect for EDM and the dance music — that audience has been ridiculously kind and has shown me so much love, so I’m not going to abandon that fan base — I don’t feel like I’ve given R&B as a genre the respect and the attention that it needs for a little minute,” Ne-Yo said.
He assured that R&B will be the core of his sixth studio album. “My next album will be predominately R&B with a couple of EDM splashes here and there,” said Ne-Yo.
We can thank the new generation of R&B singers for inspiring Ne-Yo’s R&B comeback. “This major evolution happening in R&B right now with what Miguel is doing, what Luke James is doing, what Frank Ocean came out with his album and did… I’m real excited about what’s happening in R&B right now,” said the “Sexy Love” crooner.
Ne-Yo also talked about a potential project with his R&B colleague — and next door neighbor (literally) — Trey Songz, working with Celine Dion, and more.
