July has already been filled with great R&B album releases. An R&B veteran released his 10th studio album earlier this month and debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Find out in this week’s Chart Check, dates ranging from July 4-11 (Billboard) and July 7-July 13 (radio). We also have listed R&B singers who have released an album in the past year along with their total album sales.
Hot 100
With the release of her self-titled album last week, Ciara’s lead single “Body Party” jumped from No.34 to No. 25 this week. R&B songstress Fantasia’s “Without Me” debuted at No.74, which marks her first record from “Side Effects of You” to debut on the chart. Chris Brown moved six spots from No. 87 to No. 81 with “Don’t Think They Know” featuring Aaliyah. Last but certainly not least, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” remained No. 1 on the chart.
Ten studio albums later and Joe can still debut within the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 Album Chart. His new album “Doubleback: Evolution of R&B” debuted at No.6. Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” moved from No. 17 to No. 12, selling 19,000 copies this week. Kelly Rowland’s “Talk A Good Game” continues to decline on the chart. However, it remains in the Top 20.
Top R&B Albums
Talk about a comeback! R&B veteran Joe debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Top R&B albums and sold 31,000 copies in his first week. Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” moved from No. 3 to No. 2. Kelly Rowland’s “Talk A Good Game” fell from No. 2 to No. 3. India.Arie’s latest album “SongVersation” stumbled to No.4 this week (last week: No.1). Fantasia remained at No.5 with “Side Effects of You.”
Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
Ciara made a “hot spot” debut at No.16 with her latest single “I’m Out” featuring Nicki Minaj, while “Body Party” jumped three spots from No. 10 to No. 7. Mariah Carey remained “#Beautiful” at No.4, as Robin Thicke stayed at the top of the chart with his dance hit “Blurred Lines” ft. T.I. & Pharrell.
Urban Radio
After racking in over 1000 radio spins, rising R&B star August Alsina scored a Top 20 hit with his latest single “I Luv This Sh*t” ft. Trinidad Jame$. K.Michelle’s “V.S.O.P” lead single from her debut album “Rebellious Soul” entered the Top 30 with 720 radio spins. Robin Thicke summer jam “Blurred Lines” bumped Fantasia’s ladies anthem “Without Me” from the No.10 spot this week. Also Ciara fell from the No. 1 to No. 2 with “Body Party.”
Urban AC radio
Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” moved swiftly up the Urban AC radio as it continues to increase spins each day. The single ended the week at No. 12 with a total of 839 radio spins. R&B veteran Anthony Hamilton’s latest single “The Best of Me” received 63 new spins to close the week, landing at No.4 with a total of 1,374 radio spins. Alicia Keys remained No.1 with Maxwell assisted-single “Fire We Make.”
