Solange may have taken a break from touring, however that isn’t stopping her from putting out new music. In an interview with Billboard, the “Losing You” singer revealed that she plans on releasing new music in 2014. She also announced that she will move to New Orleans and spoke about her new label, Saint Records.
Read excerpts from her interview below.
You took a long hiatus between albums before releasing “True.” Do you have a timeframe yet for this next album?
I’m actually trying to give myself a deadline this time around. One of the pros of being independent is having that space and that time. But it’s also a major con when you don’t set aside a deadline and keep going and keep going. When you have a goal in mind you definitely stay motivated. I’m trying to stay motivated because I know it took four years before my last record came out. [laughs] That is not happening — it’s gonna come out next year.
You’re about to move to New Orleans. Do you plan to immerse yourself in the music scene there as well?
I grew up in Houston, which is a four-hour drive from New Orleans. I spent many a day on Frenchmen Street, discovering new musicians. But I think in terms of this record, the sonic is gonna be established this year and the rest of the summer. And recording there I’m sure will seep into the record in some kind of way. But I’m gonna be back and forth between here and New Orleans, and there’s obviously so much great music happening here as well.
