In September, our theme for Throwback Thursday was strong ballads by R&B crooners. This month, we will zero in on R&B duets of the 80’s and 90’s.
This week’s R&B duet is lifted from the year 1987 and it is remake by the funk group, Mother’s Finest. R&B crooner Kashif teamed with 80’s diva Meli’sa Morgan as they belted 70’s hit “Love Changes.” The duo traded powerful vocal chops as they sung about the changes love can experience sometimes for both a man and woman.
The remake proved to be successful for the two singers. The song “Love Changes” peaked No.2 on the R&B chart, making it a chart-topping hit for Kashif’s title track album.
Eighteen years later “Love Changes” was remade again by Jamie Foxx and Mary J.Blige, earning the duo a 2007 Grammy nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
