CHART CHECK: Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Returns, Robert Glasper’s ‘Black Radio 2’ Debuts Top 20 & more

In this week’s installment of Chart Check, find out why Michael Jackson’s classic song “Thriller” re-appeared on several Billboard charts, which Justin Bieber song debuted on Billboard R&B Songs chart, where Robert Glasper’s new album debuted on the Billboard 200 Album chart and much more.

Dates range from Oct. 31 — Nov. 7 (Billboard) and Nov. 3 — Nov. 9 (radio).

Billboard 200

Last week, Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” held its position as the only R&B album in the top 10. This week, the album falls from No.8 to No.13. However, it doesn’t matter to Timberlake since the LP reached gold certification this week.

Robert Glasper’s “Black Radio 2” debuted at No.16.

This week, TLC’s greatest hits album “20” has plunged from No.12 to No.32.

“Love in the Future” by John Legend slips from No. 34 to No.35. Meanwhile, Robin Thicke’s gold album “Blurred Lines” trips from No.31 to No. 36.

Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War” falls from No.52 to No. 55.

Debut album “Yours Truly” by Ariana Grande moves from No. 56 to No. 60 this week.

Robin Thicke’s summer anthem “Blurred Lines” slips three spots from No. 11 to No. 14.

“Love More” by Chris Brown with Nicki Minaj remains motionless at No.23.

At last, Justin Timberlake’s “TKO” soars up the Hot 100. It rises from No. 53 to No.37.

“Marry Me” by Jason Derulo continues to climb the Hot 100, landing at No. 40 this week.

The increase in digital sales on Halloween helped Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” re-enter the Hot 100 at No.42. It originally peaked at No.4.

August Alsina’s “I Luv This Sh*t” dips from No. 48 to No. 54.

After five weeks, Sevyn Streeter’s latest single “It Won’t Stop” reaches No. 56.

Billboard Heatseekers Songs

According to Billboard.com, the Heatseekers Songs chart is the week’s most popular songs across all formats by new or developing acts who have never appeared as lead artist in the Top 50 of the Hot 100. Once the song has reach the Top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song will then be ineligible to appear on Heatseekers Songs.

Spending her second week at No.1, Sevyn Streeter’s “It Won’t Stop” stays atop the chart. Her single is currently at No.56 on the Billboard Hot 100.

K.Michelle’s “V.S.O.P.” falls from No.9 to No.10.

Billboard R&B Songs

Both Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson make their first appearance on Billboard R&B Songs chart.

Justin Bieber’s heartfelt song “Recovery” debuts at No. 5. While, Michael Jackson’s popular 80’s hit “Thriller” at No. 6.

The debuts of the latter tracks caused songs by August Alsina, Sevyn Streeter, Robin Thicke and K.Michelle to shift backward.

“I Luv This Sh*t” by August Alsina and Trinidad Jame$ falls from No. 4 to No.7.

Streeter’s “It Won’t Stop” slips from No. 7 to No.8. Meanwhile, Robin Thicke’s “Give It 2 U” featuring Kendrick Lamar drops from No.5 to No.9.

K.Michelle’s “V.S.O.P.” takes a fall from No. 9 to No.10.

“All The Way Home” by Tamar Braxton rises one spot from No. 17 to No.16.

Urban radio

August Alsina and Drake have been fighting for the number one spot on Urban radio. Closing the week with 3,671 radio spins, Alsina’s “I Luv This Sh*t” pushes Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” from the atop the chart.

Sevyn Streeter’s “It Won’t Stop” ends the week at No.4, totaling 3,545 radio spins. The single did reach No.3 earlier this week, however, Jay Z’s “Tom Ford” knock her out the No.3 position.

“Love More” by Chris Brown moves one spot from No.7 to No.6, ending the week with 3,017 radio spins. (2,917 radio spins last week).

Tamar Braxton’s and R.Kelly’s current singles stand in their same positions for the second week. Kellz’s “My Story” featuring 2 Chainz remains at No.16. While Braxton’s “All The Way Home” rest at No.29.

Ciara’s “Overdose” moves seven slots from No.40 to No.33, totaling 618 radio spins. (522 radio spins last week).

New Zealand songstress Lorde is surprisingly climbing up Urban radio with “Royals.” The single spent last week at No.46. Now “Royals” has jumped 10 spots to No.36, totaling 593 radio spins.

Jennifer Hudson’s new single “I Can Describe (The Way I Feel)” jumps two spots from No.21 to No.19.

“He Don’t Exist” by Jaheim is dominating the Urban AC radio. It climbed from No.34 to No.27 this week.

While Sevyn Streeter’s “It Won’t Stop” has Urban radio on lock, she sets her sights on doing the same on Urban AC radio. The single has shot from No.58 to No.46 this week.
