Pharrell Talks New Album, Says He’s Going ‘Rap-Free’

Pharrell has been creating numerous amounts of production work, gracing collaborations and dabbling into the fashion industry since his 2006 album, “In My Mind.”

With all of the work he is doing with other artists and companies, the idea of  Pharrell creating another solo project seemed be placed aside.

However, the 40-year-old artist told COMPLEX in a recent interview that he is working on a follow-up to the 2006 project.

Though he kept the details for the album and its possible release date at a minimal, he did share that the project would be completely rap-free, explaining that he is older now and time has changed him.

“No rapping. It’s focused,” he said in the interview. “Like I told you, that’s the difference between 30 and 40. ’Cause I was 30, now I’m 40—and I’m not rappin.”

Pharrell is currently working musicians like composer Hans Zimmer, Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr and Eurhythmics’ Dave Stewart as he produces the soundtrack of the upcoming “Spider Man” sequel.

In the Complex interview, Pharrell also spoke on how he feels about Miley Cyrus and how he creates different visions for different artists he works with.

“I  go off the personality and what’s there,” he said. “You just get a feeling, something comes to you. It’s like conversation. That’s really what it is. It’s an exchange of conversation. It’s just that it’s chords instead of sentences. Sometimes there are words instead of conversations.”
