Today, the People’s Choice Awards announced that former American Idol contestant and platinum-selling recording artist Jennifer Hudson will receive the second annual People’s Choice Award for ‘Favorite Humanitarian.’
The “Black Nativity” star will be honored during the People’s Choice Awards telecast tonight (Jan. 8) at 9 p.m. ET on CBS live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The ‘Favorite Humanitarian’ award, which Walgreens present, will be given to Hudson for her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which she and her sister (Julia Hudson) formed in 2009 in honor of their slain nephew.
The foundation works to provide stability and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds so that they may grow to be productive, positive influences in their communities.
“Thank you for honoring me with the Favorite Humanitarian Award,” says the 32-year-old Chicago native. “My sister Julia and I were raised with the belief that helping others was always very important. I am so grateful that the People’s Choice Awards and Walgreens have come together in the same spirit.”
A $100,000 donation will accompany the award to the Julian D. King Foundation. Customers can help increase that donation by clicking on the People’s Choice Awards icon on Walgreen’s mobile app tomorrow.
Hudson is thrilled that the prestigious award will bring the spotlight to the philanthropic foundation and all its work in the city of Chicago and beyond.
