In 2013, Grammy-winner R&B artist Monica was pretty silent when it came to revealing details on her seventh studio album. I guess we can’t really blame her though since she spent the majority of the year pregnant.
Nonetheless, “The Makings of Me” soul singer has taken her finger off the mute button on the remote known as her next studio album and has shared lyrics and titles of two songs via her Instagram.
Her first post revealed a song titled “Never Be” where the lyrics read, “No matter where you take her/What you buy her/What you teach her/She will never be me.” Is Monica’s channeling her inner “Miss Thang” again?
The last post were lyrics lifted from a tune titled “Destination.” The lyrics read as following, “Growing up is hard to do/Life can confuse you/But if you always know the truth/You can change your destination/They tell you what you can’t do/You just have to show and prove/There’s only one who controls your destination.” Mo definitely said a mouthful, didn’t she?
By the looks of these lyrics, Monica’s forthcoming effort sounds promising. Last year, she was spotted in the studio with hit-makers Miguel and Jermaine Dupri working on her new album.
Her last set, 2012’s “New Life” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 69,000 copies in its opening week. The album featured four-singles including the buzz record “Anything (To Find You),” “Until Its Gone,” “It All Belongs To Me,”with Brandy and “Without You.” Ultimately, the ballad-heavy effort didn’t live up to the success of its 2010 predecessor “Still Standing.” Hopefully her new project resonates with music lovers.
