Could Usher be pulling a Beyoncé and releasing new music sooner than we expect?
According to the CEO of RCA Records, Peter Edge, the “Here I Stand” crooner has been prepping for what he calls “one of his [Usher’s] best records.”
With Usher returning to NBC’s “The Voice” for a second season this spring, he will use its platform to shock the world with his new music. “He’ll have a record to tie in with The Voice when he returns in the spring,” said Edge to Hits Daily Double.
The “Yeah” singer hasn’t been heard from since his remix of Rocko’s single “U.O.E.N.O.” in May 2013.
He has been spotted in the studio with artists and producers like Young Jezzy, Eric Bellinger, and Jermaine Dupri, who may be featured on the follow-up to his 2012’s “Looking For Myself.”
Eric Bellinger, who worked with Usher on records like “Lemme See,” told Billboard last May that Usher artist would return to his R&B roots with the new album.
“He’s done so many genres of music and excelled in every area,” says Bellinger. “So now he’s like, ‘Cool. What’s left for me to do? I’ve done everything. So, I’m going to take it back to R&B, timeless music.’ ”
Fans can only hope the new music isn’t as pop-driven as his latter album, which marked his second studio album besides his 1994 self-titled album, not receiving gold or platinum certification.
