R&B newcomer Starshell has released a new song titled “My Star” in loving memory of her deceased sister.
The Ne-Yo penned record is a tribute to Starshell’s sister who committed suicide. The singer-songwriter was recently named as the national spokesperson for the American Suicide Prevention Foundation (ASPF), which raises awareness about suicide and suicide prevention.
The emotionally charged video features simple, solo shots of Starshell as well as several pictures of her with her sister. Starshell sings, “When I look up in the sky/You’re so beautiful shining/And if ever I’m lost/You are there to show me the way/You are my star.”
Starshell is known for her light-hearted R&B/Dance single “Birthday Girl”, released in 2012. She is signed to Interscope via Mary J. Blige’s Matriarch Records imprint.
