After her new indie album “Braveheart” debuted in the top ten of the Billboard 200 last week, Ashanti wants it to chart even higher. To help achieve this feat, “The Declaration” artist performs album cuts for The Boombox’s “Off The Record” series.
To begin her quartet of performances, Ashanti started with her 2002 Grammy nominated single “Foolish.” She then sung her LT Hutton produced cut “I Got It” minus Rick Ross. She also performed “Scars,” which is a fan-favorite off her new album.
Not only did Ashanti singer her own songs but she paid homage to those who came before her. The “No Where” singer covered music legend Chaka Khan’s “Sweet Thing,” which she chose to shut up her naysayers who don’t give her credit as a vocalist. To be honest, she definitely shocked the hell out of me. She even got kudos from the Queen of Funk herself. “I am so BLESSED 2 have your beautiful talent paying a tribute 2 me! What a great birthday gift! Much love!!,” tweeted Chaka who will turn 61 later this month.
While Ashanti’s album “Braveheart” sold 27,628 copies last week, it’s only expected to sell around 8,050 copies this week, according to Hits Daily Double. However, to get the final numbers check back at this week’s edition of Chart Check on Saturday, March 21.
