R&B’s “Electric Lady” Janelle Monáe keeps it funky on her new Caribbean-flavored track, “What Is Love.”
Following in the “Happy” footsteps of Pharrell Williams, Monáe is contributing a festive, Carnivalesque song to the soundtrack of the animated movie “Rio 2.”
The “Tightrope” singer proclaims her love on the track as she sings, “In your arms is where I long to be, cause being with you gives me sanity…What good is love, if it’s not your love.”
The “Rio 2” soundtrack is due out March 25 and the movie hits theaters April 11.
Earlier this month, Monáe’s sophomore effort “The Electric Lady” and her single “Primetime” with Miguel remained in the top 20 of Billboard’s R&B Albums and Hot R&B Songs charts.
She also recently performed an energetic tribute to Berry Gordy, Jr. at the 2014 BET Honors ceremony where she sang The Jackson 5’s Motown hits “I Want You Back” and “ABC.”
