Fans who are starving to hear Kelis’ “Food” album won’t have to wait anymore. The songstress teamed with NPR to stream her sixth studio album before it hits stores on April 22.
In an interview with ELLE, Kelis opened up about the concept of her new album. “Dave and I talked about stuff, but it naturally evolved into what it is right now,” she said. “It’s just where both of our hearts were. We were excited to let it breath in that moment. We talked less, and wrote more. It ended up being this thing. We didn’t want to tinker with it too much. The concept evolved naturally. Music and food are a huge part of our everyday, and this is just another chapter. I grew up in this. I started this when I was 17 and it’s been over 15 years. This was part of the story. It’s another chapter. A lot of people who’ve listened to me have grown up with me over the years. There’s ease in it, a sense of comfort and growth.”
“Food,” which was produced entirely by Dave Sitek, features singles “Jerk Ribs” and “Rumble.”
