Ne-Yo wants to start his new album era on a good foot. After releasing his new single “Money Can’t Buy” featuring Jeezy on Tuesday (May 27), the singer-songwriter drops by Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” to dish on the obvious — his new single and new project.
Before discussing his new music, the morning show hosts grilled him on his musical whereabouts since his 2012 release “R.E.D.” He mentions that he’s been working behind the scenes, juggling being a dad and making major moves at Motown and Capitol Records.
Transitioning the conversation to Ne-Yo’s new single, which has a more urban feel, Charlamagne Tha God questioned the “Let’s Go” artist about losing fans during his pop music phase. While he admits that he understands why his core audience felt he “abandoned them” during that period, he doesn’t plan on abandoning his pop fan base neither. “[Pop music] kept the lights on for a very long time,” he said. “I still got some stuff that can live in the [pop] world but there is so much R&B on this album.” However, he declares that the new album is 99.99998 percent R&B.
Further into the interview, Ne-Yo talked about not making the cut for Beyoncé’s surprise album and working for Celine Dion. Although he’s written for the music legend, he called recording alongside her intimidating.
In addition, the “Libra Scale” crooner shared his thoughts on the Michael Jackson hologram at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards and more.
Ne-Yo’s sixth studio album “Non Fiction” is slated to release on September 30.
