Trey Songz has no plans in taking full responsible for his cheating ways in the visuals for “SmartPhones,” the second single off his forthcoming album “Trigga.”
Released via a mobile web app, the Gil Green-directed clip shows Songz “livin’ la vida loca” with three beautiful women. From multiple shower scenes to the riding in fast lanes, it would appear that he’s a single bachelor — but he isn’t. Every time his girlfriend calls him, he presses the ignore button.
After a night out on the town and possibly some pillow talk, Songz’ entourage of groupies wake’s him up for some intimate conversation. However, he doesn’t realize he’s answered a call from his girlfriend who hears it all. Talk about busted.
Songz discussed with Mashable.com the inspiration behind the new song. “These phones are so smart in all that they do, that it’s like they’re an extension of our brain, but what they can’t do is always prevent human error and human nature,” he said. “The mistakes that we as humans make, the relationships that we make and we break, no amount of technology can save.”
“SmartPhones” will appear on Songz’ upcoming album “Trigga” set to arrive on July 1. It will also feature the album’s lead single “Na Na” which peaked No. 22 on the Hot 100 and No. 9 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
