Singer August Alsina is taking R&B to new heights as he becomes to the first R&B singer to make XXL Magazine’s Freshman Class.
XXL Magazine is mostly catered to rappers, not singers, but August Alsina had what it takes to change the rules. Making history and landing a spot on the 2014 Freshman Class list, the “Get Ya Money” singer was able to tell his own story and record an original freestyle for the magazine. Breaking barriers is not easy and Alsina definitely worked hard to secure his spot showing that he could shine in a hip-hop dominated platform.
“I had to go chop it up with the staff at XXL,” said the determined singer. “I remember that meeting and I clicked out on them because I feel like, ‘Let me get the same opportunity as the next man.’ I spoke my piece and they felt my heart.”
Alsina hopes to show that you can’t always put people in a box or a certain category. He knows what he brings to the table and he knows his hip-hop struggle influenced music is unlike any other. Alsina made another opportunity to delve into his collection of testimonies.
