K. Michelle has been giving fans some background on songs lifted from her debut album “Rebellious Soul” with her “Track By Track” series.
The Memphis native teams with Rated RnB to exclusively premiere the latest installment “Sometimes,” track number seven. In the short clip, K Michelle says the song came from a personal experience and the sound of the record was inspired by Etta James.
“I was really going through a situation with somebody that I missed badly, so the song was in perfect timing,” K. Michelle reveals. “I wanted to do something with an Etta James feel — something old school, something that felt really good. It’s one of the most relatable records to everybody on my whole album.”
“Rebellious Soul” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. As of April 2014, the album has sold 233,000.
In other news, K. Michelle is working on her sophomore album. So far, the “V.S.O.P.” singer has recruited top notch talent including Harvey Mason Jr., Sevyn Streeter and Stacy Barthe, among others.
Until then, be sure to catch K. Michelle’s “Rebellious Soul Musical,” directed by Idris Elba, which is expected to premiere next month on VH1.
