R&B veteran Usher serves face for NYLON Guys Magazine as he covers its June/July issue on racks today.
Juggling many gigs and prepping for an eighth studio album, NYLON Guys Magazine catches the busy business man for a few flicks and a quick interview. Proving to be capable of doing it all in addition to music, Usher has a presence on television as a judge on ‘The Voice” and now a new presence in film. He talks about his new role in the Sugar Ray biopic “Hands of Stone.”
“I wanted to show a different side of who I am, not just throw my acting chops toward a romantic comedy,” says the accomplished 35-year-old. “When I played Sugar Ray, everything was Sugar Ray. Every day I trained like a boxer. I ate like a boxer. I moved like a boxer.”
Usher also speaks on being a mentor in the music industry being that he’s been in the game for over two decades. “Artist development made me who I am. Somebody took the time to help me find what it is that works for me as an entertainer and who I am as a music maker.” That man who showed him the ropes was P. Diddy at the tender age of 15 in NYC. That’s why mentorship is so important to the veteran.
