August Alsina has never been shy to push the envelope lyrically. In the gory and horrific visual for his song “FML (F-ck My Life), he incorporates graphic elements of the crime show “The First 48” in his new music video.
Directed by Payne Lindsey and Alsina, the gruesome visual begins with rapper Pusha T reciting his verse from the honest track. While walking to an ambulance at a crime scene, Pusha discovers that its him laid out on a stretcher. The scene quickly switches to the New Orleans artist dangling from the ceiling with a rope wrapped around his neck as investigators try to make sense of what occurred. While the “Numb” crooner hangs lifeless, he sings “Let me tell you bout my self, I’m not scared to die/Been through so much shit, sometimes I wanna be in the sky/wanna know how it feels to fly, wanna know how it feels to fly/scared of hello, ain’t scared of goodbye.”
Alsina shares message to viewers that states, “I’ve been where you are. Through the struggle and through the pain. It’s what makes us stronger than most. When there seems to be no way forward you have to make a way.”
Similar to August Alsina, R&B veteran Syleena Johnson raised awareness about suicide in the visual for her new record “Perfectly Worthless” that released earlier this week.
