In April, hit-maker The-Dream made it clear that he wasn’t here for Los Angeles Clippers Owner Donald Sterling and his racial remarks with his song “Black.” While the dust has cleared some for Sterling, that hasn’t stopped the producer/singer-songwriter from releasing the official visual for the track.
Directed by Daniel Sanwald, The-Dream dresses fittingly in all “Black” attire and roams the thoroughfare of Langa Township, South Africa. While he sings the powerful lyrics on racism, classism, religion and politics, a rally of protestors, who identify with the latter injustices, gather together and march the town.
With the song “Black,” The-Dream expressed that he “needed to take a step in a direction away from my comfort zone and do and say and sing something worthwhile.” He continued, “I think this way all the time, and I spend most of my day in the battle of being Black and being a minority. Money has not changed my status in the department of racism and or classism.”
