Sometimes being a team player means just that, being a team player. Unfortunately not everyone knows how to play on a team. Instead they allow their egos and insecurities get the best of them. Then you see their true character or lack there of. When working in-group settings, sometimes it’s just as important to support from the background as it is to stand out as a lead, (there are no small parts).
The bigger picture should always be – what’s in the best interest of the matter at hand, and all parties involved. Hence teamwork. Therefore if your role on the team is to play the background, just play that role as best as you can and leave it at that. Don’t throw a temper tantrum for attention because you realize for one moment you’re not the star of the show and or the song.
It’s hypocritical to say one thing and do another, thus if you say you’re on a team, then act like it. Moreover, if it’s ok for others to play background sometimes, then it should be ok for you to play the background when necessary. We’ve all played lead and we’ve all played supporting casts at times. A team player will play any role given, do their best with it and root for the success of the team. One shining star doesn’t dim the light of other stars. In fact when one wins, we all when as a team.
