Mary J. Blige’s ‘London Sessions’ Album Set to Release in November

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige will be releasing another album before the year ends.

In an in-depth interview UK publication “The Observer,” Blige gives exclusive details on the recording process of her 13th studio album titled “Mary J. Blige: The London Sessions.”

With her new album, recorded entirely in London, Blige wanted to “really embrace the culture – to really live in it.” Blige felt that she could create an impressive body of work from the “London-scene perspective” due to the artistic freedom overseas.

“The music is free over here the way it used to be in the States,” she told the publication. “Artists are just free to do what they love. Listening to the radio you can hear the freedom. The music is living and breathing – you can hear that from Adele’s last album. It was massive – a big deal. But she did what she loved.”

The ten-track collection is set to feature writing and production contributions from several British talents including Naughty Boy, Disclosure, Napes, Sam Romans, Emeli Sandé and Sam Smith, who wrote four songs on Blige’s new album.

Sandé, co-wrote a song called “Pick Me Up,” which “mixes sub-bass with clarinet and a percussion sound that recalls early 00s UK garage.” Another song, “Therapy,” which Smith penned, has a “doo-wop feel” to it.

The new project “Mary J. Blige: The London Sessions” is scheduled to arrive in November via Capitol Records.

Read the entire interview to see why Mary felt it was necessary to visit Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse while recording her new album.
