As we try to move on from Lifetime’s dreadful Aaliyah biopic, the television network soothes our pain with the trailer for its forthcoming Whitney Houston biopic.
Directed by Angela Bassett, the made-for-television film will star Yaya DaCosta (Lee Daniels’ The Butler) as Houston. According to Bassett, Whitney will focus on Houston’s relationship with her longtime lover Bobby Brown (played by Arlen Escarpeta). “I just want them to go on the journey between Whitney and Bobby,” she tells E! News. “I considered it a love story…I guess they had great business between them. They were there to love and care for one another, and it was quite a journey.”
Whitney premieres Saturday, January 17 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. View the trailer below.
